Homemade pop tarts with a pink and red touch for Valentines day! This super easy recipe is delicious and quick.
2 pie crusts (homemade or store bought)
1/2 cup strawberry jam
1 tbsp of cornstarch
1 egg
Icing-
1 cup confectioners sugar
1 tbsp milk or cream
1 tbsp strawberry jam
Preheat oven to 400. Roll out pie crust on a floured surface. Cut the edges to make a square. Then cut three even strips. In a small bowl, lightly whisk the egg then brush it on to the edges of the pie crusts. Mix the jam and cornstarch together in a separate bowl and put a heaping spoonful on one side. Fold over the pie crusts and use a fork to seal the edges (making the indents around the side). Put on a baking sheet prepared with parchment paper. Bake for approximately 15 minutes (all ovens are different so you may need an extra minute or two). Meanwhile, whisk the icing ingredients together in a bowl. Once the pop tarts have completely cooled, drizzled the icing over the top and add any sprinkles of your choice (optional of course). Best served the same day or within 1-2 days. This makes 6 large pop tarts. I usually use the excess pie crust (that you cut off to make the square) and make a couple mini ones for Z.
Happy baking!
